It Started With A Whisper Aria straightened her shirt and fake glasses before entering the tiny drug store. It was like the miniature version target. Usually Aria goes to the city limits to barter for food and all that; but she had the strong urge to steal today. Again, she would have resulted to thievery in the City Limits. But today she wanted steal from an ACTUAL store that you don’t have to barter at. This urge was a normal thing; it has been with her ever since she was a kid. Most of the time she had learned to ignore it. It wasn’t worth getting captured or worse… This was a new world, maybe the same rules, but definitely a different playing field. Though sometimes Aria gave in, she had to. She was a thief, it was who she was. Plus she did say she would try to get some new food for her and her roommate, since he kept complaining about having the same stuff all the time. Though he seemed to miss the whole thing about them having no money and living in an abandoned church. So of course they couldn’t afford the best things in the world and had little barter with, so breaking the law had become an option. Again, Aria would steal in the city limits where it was easy and there was little risk. But never in the plaza. If her roommate knew she was doing this, he was going to kill her.
The nineteen year old quickly yanked her hair back into a sloppy pony tail, while she scoured the store. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the big security camera. Something she would have to keep her back to at all times. Aria quickly began walking down an aisle so no attention would be brought to her. Just act normal, she told herself, act like you fit in. Even though she clearly didn’t. It was only an assumption, but the store’s costumers were probably all awakened. With her luck there was probably a plagued in here as well. She was going to have to stay alert so she didn’t have to run into those. Excitement began to flow through her as she made a mental list of what she was able to take and what she wanted to take. Keeping her head down, she looked over all the chips. Her fake glasses slid down her nose as she tried to keep her eyes on the lower half of the shelves. Aria knew that nobody in the store recognized her and it needed to stay that way.
A bag of Cheetos had caught her eye, it was something she wanted to take but didn’t know if it would fit. They were a necessity and would take up the majority of her bag. But she hasn’t had Cheetos in forever… No! She had to look for the essentials and all that jazz. Aria kept walking as she secured her black tote bag to her side. The girl was super focus on her plan of theft that she wasn’t really paying attention to anything else. Which may or may not harm her situation…

Kalamity was waiting patiently on the roof of a small convenience store, watching the back alley like a hawk. She was the one who had to be sent out on duty today… of course, right? That would totally freaking figure. Danny thought it mainly kept her out of trouble. Little did he know. This was probably the one thing she could get into the most trouble with. Which she didn’t mind, and actually sometime even loved to do. But it was tedious and she had to constantly listen to the others complain about not getting certain foods and whatnot. Whatever. Right now she couldn’t worry about that. She needed to focus. Every so often one of the employees of the store would walk out and leave the back door open for a smoke. But they stood too close to it. Kal was waiting for one to bring out the trash. The dumpster was a couple of feet down the alley. If they had gotten into the habit of leaving the door open, which Kal was sure they had, she would have more than enough time to get down the fire escape ladder and inside before they even reached the dumpster. Now inside she wasn’t too sure of the layout so she would have to find somewhere to hide, and quick.
It was only a few more mere moments she had to wait before someone finally brought out the trash. To her joy, it wasn’t just one, but two trash bags too. This almost seemed to make it too easy. Better yet she was right, and they had left the door open. As the employee moved toward the dumpster, she quickly grabbed hold of the ladder and shot to the ground as fast as she could. On the ground she glanced quickly at the guy walking to the dumpster, and then shot into the back of the store. She snuck quickly to the right and found a huge number of boxes stacked against the wall. Perfect. Kal shimmied in behind them and waited until she heard the back door close before peaking around the edge of the boxes hiding her. Her cold blue eyes followed the guy through the back storage area and to the door back out to the store. A minute more and she grabbed one of the boxes closest to her and ripped open the lid. Empty. She had to suppress a groan. That meant she had to wander into the store to get what she needed and that was definitely not ideal. Kal sighed. She would hear it for days if she didn’t bring back any food. She just didn’t want to deal with that right now.
Kal heaved a sigh again and stood slowly. She moved quietly from her hiding place and glided without a sound around the wall of the room all the way to the door to the shop. She snuck a quick peek out the tiny window. No employees around and no customers. At least it was in her favor. She opened the door just enough for her to slip through and then closed it behind her. She moved quickly, but not enough so to draw attention to herself. She scanned the shelves making a mental inventory of what she needed to grab. If she needed to she could make more than one trip to the back. She also glanced at the ceiling, noting the security cameras and which way they where pointed. Luckily the door to the back room wasn’t covered. As she wandered down the aisles, she continued to note what she had to grab. Some of the stuff she and they crew hadn’t had in a long time. While she was documenting all these things in her mind, she wasn’t paying enough attention to where she was going. Kal managed to walk straight into someone. Jumping back quickly and eyeing the girl she glared hard at her. ”Might want to move out of the way when someone’s walking, don’t you think?” she said angrily. She couldn’t help it. Right now the wind could push this either way. If one of the Awakened in the store recognized her, it was done. She was known pretty well wherever she went, so anybody would benefit from catching her. And since she had to walk in here without something to cover her face, she was pretty much screwed if this little confrontation turned ugly.

It Started With A Whisper Aria was a little saddened at the fact that she couldn’t grab the bag of Cheetos from earlier but she would make it up to herself later. Maybe have a round of mock fighting with the werewolf roommate would make her feel better. It wasn’t like Aria ever won those things; after all she was a tiny human against a super being. But it did make her stronger and helped her improve. Plus Aria usually expressed herself more physically then verbally anyways. It always made her feel better to have mock fights or just shoot at the gravestones outside of the church. This was what her life was reduced to. She was stuck in an abandoned church with a werewolf. Aria had no other friends and really didn’t have the personality to make any new friends. Not to mention her situation didn’t exactly put her in great positions to make friends. Other than her roommate and the venders she bartered with, Aria didn’t really interact with anybody else. Which never really bothered her, until recently. With all this time to reflect on life, she was starting to realize how alone she was. Even before the chaos Aria wasn’t a pleasant person but at least she had more than one friend. Of course she should count her blessings with what she had now. At least she had a friend she could depend on. Sighing, the girl continued onward through the store.
Aria glanced up at the security cameras quickly before turning her head make to the shelves. Her fake glasses slid off her nose slightly as she grabbed her first item off of the shelf. Just as she had, someone had run into her. Panicked filled the tiny girl as she reached for her pocket knife. Stupidly she left her pistols at home, thinking this would be a simple job that wouldn’t need weapons. Of course her annoying roommate had made her bring at least a knife just in case. Aria was taken aback by the girls tone, as she took her hand off of the knife. The girl was taller than her, with long black hair. And of course the female was curvier than her as well. Sometimes Aria hated being tiny and flat. “I didn’t realize your lack of observation skills was my problem,” Aria snapped back. It wasn’t her fault this girl was paying attention to where she was walking. The survivor might be tiny but she wasn’t invisible. For crying out loud, open your eyes you stupid woman. Aria bit back all the other comments she had wanted to make. And was definitely resisting the urge to give this woman her middle finger. She did not need a confrontation right now. The less attention that was drawn to her the better.
“Whatever,” Aria scuffed, before turning back to the shelf. Maybe if the girl thought she was a normal costumer then she would leave her alone. As much as Aria wanted to yell and fight with this very rude woman, she kept her composure. Something that was extremely hard for her to do. At least right now. The survivor was on edge. When she was working a job she really couldn’t deal with much else. Just the small fact that this whole thing could go south so quickly was giving her a panic attack. Something she hasn’t felt in a long time. And sadly, Aria missed it. She missed the pressure, the stress, the pure adrenaline rush that came with stealing stuff. That’s when something clicked in her head. Either this woman was having a bad day or she was in a similar position she was. Oh this could be fun. Turning back to the woman, Aria observed the woman again. Oh yes, this could be fun.

Kalamity glared hard at the girl in front of her. Sarcasm. It was a nice deflection. Now had the girl been an Awakened, she would’ve recognized and obliterated Kal on the spot. Assuming she wasn’t an Awakened then, it meant she was a Survivor as well. Kal watched through stone cold dead eyes as the girl observed her. Kal wondered for a split second what the girl was thinking. Then Kalamity realized she really didn’t care. “Yeah I know I’m gorgeous, but you can stop staring now,” Kal said, rolling her eyes. She was a smart ass and she knew it. But hey, this chick got in her way. Push came to shove; Kal was determined to be the last one standing.
As she was in the process of rolling her eyes, a small movement caught her eye. Kal’s eyes immediately trained on this movement. It had come from a store employee. Apparently he had stopped to stare at the two girls and noticed what was happening, along with something else. The movement was from him reaching to his belt to get a radio. Kal stared at him for a second, letting their eyes meet and letting him know that she had seen him. His mouth started to move and Kal distinctly read the word ‘Survivor’ from his lips. The rest she didn’t care about as she spun around to grab what she could and make a break for it. The girl standing in front of her was almost completely an afterthought. But only almost.
While Kalamity was grabbing as much food as she could carry, she glanced at the girl. “My suggestion to you would be to grab what you want and run, Survivor,” she snapped. She really didn’t mean to be quiet so mean on that one, but damn her for not following cardinal rule… every man for them self. Who was she to talk really when she had 5 others living with her? The other reason was that she didn’t want this girl to slow Kal down. If she did, well then Kal would let it be known that there would be hell to pay. As Kal got up with her armful of goods, second nature made her analyze what was going on around her. There were more Awakened now moving at the two girls from all directions. Kalamity’s eyes moved quickly to the front of the store. There were already employees moving to guard there too. Glancing quickly at the back door through which she had come through, Kal noticed that no one had really realized that she had come through there. Turning to the girl next to her, she barely nodded toward the back of the store. “Trust me on this one and just follow me,” |
she whispered to her, “once we hit the alley I don’t care where you go or what you do, but for now get ready for a jog I guess…”. Kal looked around her again, and waited patiently for her opening. The moment she saw it, she moved. Kal hoped the girl next to her had enough in her to move too. The only thing on her mind in that moment was making it out of there and back to Dante and the others. [/div] [/style]

It Started With A Whisper Aria scuffed at the woman’s comment, and was about to reply but was cut short when she noticed an employee staring at the two girls. Aria held her breath before she realized the employee was reaching for a radio. Before she could even tell what he was about to say, Aria turned to the shelf and began to grab the nearest items to her. “What a great suggestion,” Aria snapped in a quiet tone that was clearly filled with sarcasm. The little girl had already made her decision to book with everything she could possibly hold. She wasn’t stupid. But Aria did feel bad, she should be grateful the taller girl thought about her at all. Because clearly Aria was not thinking about her. All Aria really cared about was getting herself out of the situation and getting back to James. Just when she was finished grabbing some goods, she went to bolt out the door when she noticed the other awakened.
“Crap,” she muttered as she noticed the rest of them move in on those two. Her eyes darted to the front door, which was already guarded. Damn it. For the first time Aria felt the need to ask for help. She glanced at the taller female and noticed her slight nod to the back door. The only other exit that wasn’t being blocked. Aria nodded at the girl, she really had no other choice but to trust her. Hopefully it wouldn’t be a mistake. “A jog? More like a run,” Aria muttered, mostly to herself. The small survivor waited for the other female’s lead. A few second passed before Aria found herself jogging next to the other survivor. All she really cared about was getting out of there. She just needed to get back to the abandoned church, back to James. She sidestepped a shelf and kept running. Aria made sure her pace was the same as the other girl’s. The last thing she wanted to do was lose sight of the one thing that could get her out of that mess.
Honestly the girl didn’t know how long she would follow her. Maybe as soon as they got to the alley they would spilt up. Or she could keep up with the girl until she was sure that they were clear of any danger. Plus if she was with the other woman she had a better chance of surviving then she did on her own. It had been a long time since Aria had to escape from such a sticky situation. Usually she was more careful then this. Damn her over confidence, got her every time.

Kalamity burst through the back door and into the employee storage room, slamming it shut behind the smaller girl as she dashed in as well. Kal leaned against the door momentarily and glanced around, spotting a relatively heavy looking table. She jumped up, motioning to the other girl, and flung herself over the table. She dropped the food in her arms and flipped the table in one quick motion. With the help of the other girl, she and Kal managed to push the table into the door just as it was opening. Heaving a puff, Kal turned to pick up the rest of her food. “If you want, put what you grabbed in one of those boxes. They’re all empty,” |
she said, nodding at the stack of boxes she had hid behind when she came in. The barricaded door suddenly opened heavily and hit off the table, moving it slightly. Kalamity looked and sighed. She walked past the other girl and put a hand lightly on her shoulder for a moment. ]color=ffffff]“Come on. Let’s hurry and get out of here,” she said gently to her, kind of as her way of making up for herself earlier. Kal moved past the other girl as the door banged against the table again. Grabbing an empty box, Kalamity quickly loaded up her armful of food. She looked at the table, which had been consistently hit and moved. It was a good couple of inches from the door now. Kal got up and grabbed her box and turned to the smaller girl. “If you’re ready…” she said and nodded at the door to the alley. “We’ve only got a couple of minutes to get to the roof,” she sighed. “Out and to the left is your best chance. It’s a jump to get to the ladder, but you should have no problem making it easy.” Kal meant it as a compliment. She put a hand on the handle and cautiously put her ear to the door. She didn’t hear any noise on the other side of the door. She put three fingers up first as the start of the countdown. Another bang hit off the barricade table, but this one was followed by a heavy crunch. Kal didn’t turn around and kept listening to outside. Two fingers. Another heavy bang and a crunch. Still no noise. One finger. This bang was followed by a loud sickening sounding crunch and cracking noise. Kal whipped around to see some of the store employees busting the rest of the way through the door. “Go!” Kal shouted and pushed open the door to the alley. Sprinting through the door, Kalamity and the other girl turned quickly and made a break for the ladder. Kal lengthened her strides and flung herself forward. She grabbed onto one of the rungs of the ladder with one hand, and her entire body smashed into the ladder. Her breath caught in her throat, but she didn’t give herself any time to get it back. She scrambled up the ladder just in time for the other girl to follow her up. Kal had somehow managed to keep a hold of her box of food of her box of food, and as she reached the top she threw her box up onto the roof and pulled herself up after it. She rolled over onto the top of the roof and sprung up. She looked momentarily at the other girl and then down at the alley. Only one employee had made it into the backroom and out into the alley so far. “Almost,” she growled, primarily to herself, and as soon as the other girl was up and stable on her feet, Kal took off again. She sprinted over the rooftops and jumped the gaps easily. Three or four sections down, she skidded to a stop and looked over the edge. A fire escape was stationed a few feet below. She glanced back over her shoulder. So far no one was following them. She dropped her box over the edge and then vaulted over after it. She landed easily on the fire escape and pressed herself into the little cuddy hole for the window, sliding her box in as well. Luckily, there was enough room for both girls, but it was going to be a tight fit. Kal let her head rest against the brick wall behind her. She was breathing deep, but not panting. Conditioning for as long as she had had been a pretty good idea for her. She looked at the other girl. “Kalamity, by the way,” she said and stuck her hand out to the girl. Rarely did anyone believe that was actually her name, but it didn’t matter in her mind. Her brother joked that their parents were planning on an apocalypse and named her that on purpose. Kal usually rolled her eyes, but, truth be told, it actually came in handy. [/div] [/style]

It Started With A Whisper Aria practically dove into the storage room. Being a small thin girl came in handy when one need to run or fling oneself into a room. She scrambled up to her feet and quickly looked around the room for something heavy to put against the door. Aria and the other girl seemed to think alike as both lunged for the table. The two managed to prop the table against the door. Aria let out a breath as her brain begin to scramble itself back together. With adrenaline pumping through her she was able to think clearly and perfectly. Being an adrenaline junky would do that to a person. Aria clutched her bag closer to her. “I’m good, didn’t get to grab much,” Aria stated and then quickly added, “Thank you though.” Forcing herself to be somewhat cordial was a big task. One she didn’t have time to do at the moment, but she started to feel bad that this woman was helping her out and she wasn’t being very nice. Aria’s thoughts were interrupted by the door banging against the table. “Agreed.” Aria quickly fastened her bag tighter to her and made sure her food was securely in there.
Aria just nodded, resisting the urge to say anything. Any plan she had would not benefit both of them. Only one would be able to make it out the way she was thinking about. But that’s only due to the fact that for the longest time it was only her she had to fend for. She didn’t have someone tag along on these adventures in a long time. Ever since Ian. The name flashed her mind and it was like a shot of adrenaline rush. Not now. Can’t think about him now. Aria watched the door slowly bang open as she waited for the other woman’s signal. Her body twitching with excitement and anticipation. She missed feeling this…alive. Aria barely caught the sound of the woman’s voice as the door broke and flew open. Not looking back, Aria booked it. Her feet pushing against the ground as fast as they could. She paused and watched what the other girl did for a second before following her lead.
Aria jumped up and grabbed onto the rungs of the ladder. Not stopping to adjust herself, she quickly started to climb the ladder. Her breath was coming out in a slow and steady beat. This is what she was built for. The small girl grabbed onto the roof’s ledge and attempted to pull herself up with the sound of the alley door caught her off guard. She let out a small yelp as her hand slipped from the roof. Not having the time to compose herself, Aria’s other hand grabbed the roof and she pulled herself up. She glanced at the hand that slipped, her left, and noticed it was scraped badly. Blooding dripping down from it slightly. The pain of it didn’t hit her yet though, there was too much adrenaline pumping through her body. Only a few seconds passed before the two females were running again. Aria kept up easily with the other women. After about four sections of roof tops later, the other woman skidded to a stop. Aria nearly ran into the girl but managed to catch herself beforehand. Aria didn’t question the girl’s next plan. Though she should have since it led to the two of them jumping onto a fire escape being cramped into a tiny cubby hole. She quickly adjusted her bag onto her lap when she was situated in the hole. She hunched over as she tried to get the adrenaline to subside. Aria glanced at the hand that was in front of her face like it was a disease. “Kalamity?” she questioned looking up at the woman. “Aria.” She went to shake the hand but stopped when a piercing pain shot up her arm. There it is. “Crap,” she swore again.
She took off her bag and handed it over to Kalamity. “Can you hold this?” Before the other person could answer, Aria grabbed the bottom of her shirt and ripped a strip of fabric off. After a few attempts, her left hand was nicely bandaged up and secure. “So…what’s up…?” Aria asked hesitantly. Small conversation was not her strong point. Hell interacting with others in general is not her strong point.

Kalamity let out a harsh chuckle at the poor girl’s look when Kal mentioned her name. “Yes, it’s exactly what you’re thinking. Like a disaster except with a ‘K’. It’s strange, I know,” |
she said in an amused tone. She nodded at the other girl when she said her name. “Pretty name,” she said. Usually, she wasn’t one to say things like that, especially in the given time. But she always had liked uncommon names. Obviously. Hell, look at her own name. Call it a hobby. She enjoyed coming up with strange and unique names for her unborn children. She grabbed the bag from Aria without much hesitation. Kal watched as the smaller girl wrapped her cut up hand with a strip of fabric from her shirt. It kind of amused Kal to watch Aria do this. This was mainly due to the fact that that was exactly how Kalamity was too. No bandage? No problem. Make one yourself. The numerous scars up Kal’s arms spoke for that. Handing the bag back over to her, Kalamity shrugged and smiled ruefully. “Well same old, same old, you know? Running for your life, pissing off Awakened… the usual,” she threw off a shrug with a quick laugh. Was it a sad thing that it was totally normal? Every chance she got she liked to be out. Eight out of ten times, that was usually what a Survivor was doing. Unless that was just Kalamity. If that was the case, well then, she would have to go talk to someone about her issues. It was also probably a sad thing to say she honestly enjoyed doing it. She blamed the adrenaline rushes for that. But hey, what could she do? These things were normal in this time and place. There wasn’t much else anyone else can do. “What about you?” Kal asked Aria. She was only expecting an answer like what she had given. But then again, one never knew about what would come from people. Kal could tell small talk wasn’t something the other girl was particularly fond of. Whether it was just the talking in general or it being Kal, she couldn’t really tell. But while they wait, at the very least, Kal wanted to make her feel a little more comfortable. They were after all, crammed into a small space for a little while and had to figure it out how to coexist in the same area for a bit. Usually, Kal tended to hate being around other survivors that weren’t a part of the BTG. For whatever reason, she didn’t like to acknowledge the fact that they were like her in the fact that they were just trying to get along with life as it was. Kal had finally come to reason that she was only trying to survive now. For the most part, personal connection in her world meant straight up death overall out in the open. It was weakness. She already had enough of that, between Dante, her brother, her friends… any one of them was leverage. And Kal would gladly do whatever it took to make sure that they were all and stayed safe. She tended to not have much room in there for anyone else. On the flip side though, Aria seemed to be a lot like Kal was, and in Kalamity’s mind, that earned the smaller girl some respect. “So, odd as it may seem, and this isn’t any trick or anything cuz I know that’s where you’re mind is gonna jump to, but…” she started, pausing to think of how to best word the rest of this sentence. “If you’re alone and need a place to crash for a bit or something, I got a place. The rest of the BTG won’t mind if I got your back. You seem like a cool chick.” Complete honesty, coming from Kal. She knew the other girl was less than likely to take her up on that offer. But many around these parts knew of the Blood-Thirst Gang and their rep. That alone held persuasion and warning in one. She added as a bit of an after-thought, “It’s your call on it, but offer stands regardless if you ever need a favor.” That was honestly the least Kal could do. This girl had put blind faith on another Survivor that she didn’t know, and the two had made it out in one piece. A bit of back-up could go a long way in this world, and Kal knew that well. It Started With A Whisper “Thanks,” Aria muttered shifting a little bit. The small girl wasn’t used to compliments no matter how sincere it was. It just wasn’t something that happened often enough for her. Even before the chaos Aria never really got compliments. Ian would try to give her them but she always shot them down. He got tired of trying getting rebuffed. And any time James tries to give a compliment, Aria assumes he’s hitting on her and she ends up slapping him. Yea, she was definitely a difficult girl to get along with. Her eyes trailed back down to her hand. The shirt was tightly wound around it; hopefully it would stop the bleeding. She really hoped it wouldn’t turn into a scar. It wasn’t like the girl was all about appearance, but she had a million scars already. She really didn’t need another one. Aria quickly made a mental note to replace the shirt with a Band-Aid when she got back to the church.
Aria took the bag back quickly. She suppressed the urge to double check everything. If Kalamity stole anything, Aria would have seen it in this tiny space. But still she was a paranoid girl. The tiny girl chuckled at her response. How awful is it that, that was normal in their society today? “The usual..” she muttered to herself before chuckling again. Aria glanced at Kalamity. Who knows what this girl goes through on a daily basis. Surely it was the same thing Aria had to do. They were after all fellow survivors. And from what she could tell they had almost the same personality. But who was this girl before everything? What was her normal before the plague struck? What was her family like? Did she have a family? It was strange to think that there was a time where there wasn’t plagued or awakened. A time where the only things girls their age should worry about was school, boys, and part-time jobs. Aria might have had a street life before this, but she would take that life over this one any day. No matter how bad it got in the orphanage or out on the streets, Aria was relatively sure she would make it to see the next day. Nowadays you had to sleep with one eye open and wonder if each night was going to be your last. You had no security blanket. At least not for survivors. Not for people like Aria and Kalamity. “Same here. Though I’m trying to put a limit on how many awakened I piss off each day…don’t want to get too greedy,” Aria joked. The next thing that came out of the other girl’s mouth was a really big surprise. The tiny girl sat there quietly for a few seconds, contemplating on how to answer that. The BTG was kind of known around the survivors. Though Aria always dismissed it all, she just thought they were mythical beings or something. After all why would you want your gang to be known by so many? Maybe it was some sort of scare tactic. But at the same time there were always things out in the world that were out to get others, especially if they wanted to gain a rep. Aria was the type to lay low. Keep everything a secret. Stay under the radar. Anybody who did differently was an idiot in her eyes. But Kalamity didn’t seem like an idiot. She did help Aria out and she seemed pretty cool. Aria wasn’t ready to kill her, which was a compliment in itself. Though there was a lack of trust Aria gave to the other woman, still… “I’ll have to keep that in mind.” And then she quickly added, “Thank you.” In the end the survivor knew it was best to have some back up out in the world. All she had was James and if anything happened to him. She would be alone. Well she did have her awakened sister, but the tiny girl rather kill her than rely on her. “The offer goes both ways. I live in the abandoned church with a friend if you are ever out that way and need somewhere to go.” It was only polite to offer Kalamity the same thing in return. Though she tried to keep James as vague as possible. He wasn’t an awakened or plagued, but he was a werewolf and a horny male. A very dangerous combination in most people’s eyes.[/blockquote]
